[download as pdf]

Columbia Wetlands Adventures has put together a sample day trip including our favorite spots between the Banff and Yoho National Parks. Pair this with a afternoon Guided Float Tour with us and you have the recipe for a perfect day in the Canadian Rockies.

7:30am
Depart from Lake Louise and head west for approximately 80km on TransCanada Hwy #1. As you exit Yoho National Park keep your eyes open for the Golden BC turn-off.

8:20am
Continue through the town of Golden, crossing over the Kicking Horse River. Follow Highway 95 south, 26 km to our Columbia Wetlands Adventures headquarters on the left side of the road.

10:00am
Depart from the office on your Columbia Wetlands Adventure guided float tour or self guided paddle in one of our rental boats.

11:45am
After your Columbia River Wetlands tour, arrive back at our picturesque dock location. Feel free to enjoy a snack here, and ask your tour guide’s recommendation for lunch locations in Golden. There are quite a few fantastic restaurants where you can either sit in or take-out your meal to a scenic picnic location.
Hop in your car and head back to Golden.

12:30pm
When you are ready to leave, return to your car and go back to the TransCanada Hwy #1 heading east towards Banff. If you have chosen to enjoy your lunch as a picnic, look for the turnoff to Finn Creek Picnic area 20 minutes, 38 km, east of Golden.
Enjoy your packed lunch at the picnic tables and take a short stroll along the creek.
Continue east on Hwy #1 for approximately 5 minutes, 15km. Turn left from the TransCanada onto the Emerald Lake Road. The road curves around the base of Mount Burgess, providing beautiful views of the glacial lake and surrounding mountains. Emerald Lake is one of the jewels of the Canadian Rockies and a terrific photo opportunity!
Back to your car and keep going east. As you pass through Yoho National Park enjoy the views of towering rock walls and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. Look for the signs for Takkakaw Falls, Canada’s 2nd highest waterfall. Turn left onto Yoho Valley Road and follow the road 14km to the end. “Takkakaw” means magnificent in Cree and these falls definitely are!
Once you finish at the waterfalls, continue on your way back to Lake Louise to relax by the fire and enjoy a tasty meal!
